About

Getting involved in scent work with dogs often starts with a curiosity or need to engage a dog’s natural instincts. You may have noticed your dog’s keen sense of smell and desire to explore the world nose-first. This could have led you to research or discover scent work as a structured activity that not only stimulates your dog mentally but also strengthens your bond. Participation could have begun with basic training exercises at home, attending a workshop, or joining a class, where both you and your dog learned the basics of identifying and locating specific scents. This activity likely provided a productive outlet for your dog’s energy and offered a fulfilling hobby for you as well.

My journey into scent detection  stemmed from a desire to support and enrich my reactive dog's life, which turned into a passion that has lasted over a decade. It's impressive how this sport not only helped my  dog become mentally stimulated but also allowed us  both to overcome various obstacles, highlighting the effectiveness of positive reinforcement. The way scent detection taps into a dog's natural abilities and strengthens the bond between dog and human is truly special. My  continued dedication has resulted  in several dogs competing, with one now at the elite level.

Engaging in continuous education and hosting trials are excellent steps towards becoming a future judge in the dog sports field. Continuous education ensures that I am up-to-date with the latest rules, techniques, and training methodologies, which is crucial for fair and knowledgeable judging. Hosting trials, on the other hand, provides hands-on experience with the logistical and procedural aspects of competitions, further enhancing my understanding and expertise in the field. These activities not only build my reputation within the community but also deepen my own understanding of the sport I love.
